Shalom. Never forget how deep is the love God has for you and everyone else.
We are often reminded to be fruitful. I went through a time as a Pastor where it was emphasised that this should imply that we should expect to see growth and that meant numerical growth of church family. While this is true and good, it’s not the only indication of fruitfulness or health, in fact I don’t think it’s a good first indicator at all because there can be many things driving it.
When Paul wrote to the church in Ephesus he described fruitfulness in terms of character… love, joy, peace, patience, kindness , gentleness, faithfulness and self control… for these are aspects that we can do something about but numbers aren’t under our ability to control. However if we have a congregation of people who are all exceeding with the ability of love, patience etc… then that would be a great thing to belong to… I remember Acts talks about something like that… So if you want to see this or any church be fruitful then make sure you’re focused on Jesus and the guidance of His Holy Spirit in developing your character and loving others.
Basically, don’t be so busy doing church that you forget to be the church. People never look back and say how great it was being number 123 in a church of 500 or more, they talk about other people. So make sure you give them something good to talk about.
Well… this is my final Pastors Pen here and if you remember nothing else…. remember that God loves you just the way you are. But He refuses to leave you that way, He wants you to be just like Jesus.
May you keep on loving and living His way every day.
